AI agency - and therefore the implementation of guardrails thereto - is not nearly as procedurally manageable a problem as it may appear on the surface. As I hypothesize the situation to be structured, that’s because computational systems are necessarily only capable of contenting with information limited to the fundamentally discrete, such as numbers, binaries, formal algebras, or representations of real systems which have been approximated in discrete terms. This runs up hard against reality, though; because reality is not discrete. Reality is continuous. It simply does not appear that way because (as explained by relational QM) it manifests only as a network of “events”, so that when we attempt to see “what is really going on” or however one might prefer to frame that; we are able only to observe events, such as a particle interacting with a detector; but these events appear probabilistically determined. That is because the “particle” is more like a smear of continuous being, as everything truly is; and cannot be encountered in itself except in the event of an interaction it has with the measurement apparatus, which appears, of course; discrete. Therefore, the measurement appears to adhere to the expectations implied by modern QM interpretations/predictive models, and no one is driven to put two and two together. But AI is likely to be seriously, perhaps even catastrophically hampered by its inability to contend with continuum.

Thank you for your answer on "how to identify [lasting] skills": your suggestion to focus on meta skills (rather than individual tools) is good though of course at the job level, you need the tool-based skills. I thought you might have said that data science and programming skills are still important as the foundation - or put differently that one cannot hope to understand AI without such a foundation. & Txs for the stats, which I'll use in class and for faculty communication!

I would like to query the operating system with: What files did I view,modify,create on 2024-06-09 around 12:00. -- Ultimately - what I am thinking of is "context setting" So often I have a "bunch of stuff going on at once" ... then I jump no another topic. I would like to come back a week or so later and get "same context" back.
